Straight Up & Toasted

Guest lighting a cigar at a Fine Tobacco Club evening at The Carnegie ClubSinger performing with a vintage microphone at The Carnegie Club

It started in June 2013 with a simple idea: a good cigar, a couple of pours and a jazz trio in the corner of The Carnegie Club on West 56th Street. More than fifty evenings later, the formula hasn’t changed much, and that’s the point.

Each night is built around a pairing. One cigar maker, one distillery, usually a single malt, and a room that fills up quickly once the band starts. Over the years we’ve poured The Balvenie, Glenmorangie, Ardbeg and WhistlePig alongside cigars from Aging Room, Plasencia, La Palina and Cohiba. There’s been a Roaring ’20s Halloween, a Plasencia Alma Fuerte launch, a “Great Reunion” when the city reopened in 2021, and most recently a night for Miles Davis’s centennial.

Most people come for the pairing. They come back for the room.
