On Thursday, October 18, 2018, Fine Tobacco Club hosted Straight Up & REMIXED: Port Charlotte Scotch & Oliva Cigars at The Carnegie Club in Midtown.
About the evening
Straight Up & REMIXED was a new take on our usual jazz night at The Carnegie Club. On the main floor, guests paired the Oliva Serie V Double Robusto with Port Charlotte 10 Year and Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2011. Up on the second-floor balcony, VIP guests added the Oliva Serie V Melanio Figurado, Cigar Aficionado’s #1 cigar of 2014, alongside Bruichladdich Octomore 8.1 and Black Art 5.1.
The Serie V brought leather, white pepper, cedar and creamy coffee. Port Charlotte 10, peated to 40ppm, was all oaky smoke and sea salt. The Islay Barley 2011, distilled from three Islay farms’ harvests, moved from dry smoke and salted caramel to charcoal and sweet barley. The Octomore, peated to 167ppm, still showed vanilla, melon and marzipan. Black Art finished the night on pineapple, mango, cigar box and red berries.
