How it Started
Cigars are strange. They are complete as a solitary enjoyment, but perfected as a shared experience.
Our story began in 2009, when Matthias Clock put an invite out on internet forums to come to his rooftop at 200 Water St. to enjoy cigars. 40 people showed, up including David Alicea and Kelvin Batista, who encouraged Matthias to get another event on the books.
What started as a casual meetup on that rooftop evolved into regular events across Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Hoboken, welcoming anyone with an interest in cigars and a desire for good company. Conversations turned to new cigars on the market, life stories, shared tips, and the simple pleasure of meeting new people.
In 2012, Manhattan cigar lounges took notice, inviting us to host events at their venues. This opened up new opportunities, from cigar brand launches and high-end educational events to summer rooftop gatherings. Even with the new events, the purpose remained the same: to celebrate the art of fine tobacco and the friendship that goes with it.
Now, with over 200 events held for more than 8,000 enthusiasts across 30+ states, our journey continues. We bring together cigar lovers—both new and experienced—to share unique experiences, build friendships, and enjoy the richness of fine tobacco together. We invite you to join us, whether that’s at one of our New York City events or by starting your own Fine Tobacco Club chapter.
