Excellent article. This really is another prohibition; it’s never worked, and always led to a smattering of negative consequences. What I hate is that we allow our government to spend more money than it has. If I were to spend 400 million dollars more then I had (which would be around 400,000,001 dollars) I would go to jail. Why should these people be any different?

The biggest issue, and you touched upon this, that we face as a community is that we limit ourselves; the Cigar Rights of America group is starting to realize this, and I hope that we can learn to spread the word beyond just cigar smokers. Yes, I think we will be affected most, and yes, I think to spread the word as a general cause is a little self-serving, but the truth is, everyone gets hurt when stuff like this happens. I want certain services rendered to me by the state, and I understand that a certain level of taxation will be necessary.

This seems logical, but there are several problems, and I detailed this in my article about the NY Tax reforms that was edited and passed on by Prometheus and Keith Park; people are sheep. We are, as a large body, content to believe what politicians will tell us. And to politicians, this is a win-win, because if it works, they were right. If it doesn’t work (it wont,) not a single opponent can bring it to bear, because they can always say “can you put a price on our children’s health?” It’s about 100% bullshit, but they’ll toss that line anyways, and were an intelligent person to counter “why no, but this isn’t about the children,” about 70% of the population will vomit out a stream of hatred, because what they just heard was “fuck the children!” And unfortunately, 70% is enough to elect the idiot, which leaves the rest of us pondering who peed in the gene pool.
